How Your Donations Help Syrian Refugees – Anoush’s Story

How your donations help Syrian refugees

Furniture Bank has always supported newcomers and refugees in their journey of settling into life in Canada. In 2015, we saw a 60% surge in the number of refugees and newcomers who required furniture, sent our way by partner agencies. Consequently, when the government declared that over 4,440 Syrian refugees would be welcomed into the Greater Toronto Area, Furniture Bank saw it as an opportunity to extend our services.

Furniture Bank maintains partnerships with 18 refugee and settlement agencies, including Lifeline Syria and Sponsorship Agreement Holders, to help meet the immediate furniture needs of Syrian refugees.Between 2015 and 2016, Furniture Bank managed to provide furniture for over 400 Syrian refugees who were making the Greater Toronto Area their new home.

Client Impact: Anoush's Story

A Furniture Bank Impact Story

Anoush and her family are recent refugees from Syria. Here’s what she had to say about their Furniture Bank experience:

“I was amazed. Their showroom was spacious and the staff and volunteers let us choose what we liked. I couldn’t believe it… Now we have a home again where we feel safe and secure. After all that has happened to us, this is a miracle. You have helped change our lives and restored our hope.”

Having a furnished home plays a critical role in the resettlement process for refugees and newcomers. Providing furniture to these individuals and families allows them to have a place they can proudly call home and a foundation to build a life here in Canada. .

Thank you to our donors for helping refugees comfortably settle here in Canada and turn their housing into homes.
