Meet Miro

Miro came to Furniture Bank as a participant in our LegUp program in 2004 and has since been around to see it all. “In September of 2020 I began my 17th year at Furniture Bank. The young chaps kind of looked at me with awe. It’s become one of the biggest pieces of my life. If it wasn’t for Furniture Bank I don’t know where or what I would be today. At my lowest point, I was given a chance with this job and I full-heartedly accepted it. Sooner or later we all need help of different kinds, different amounts.. And I can fully relate to that when serving our clients because I’ve lived through it myself.”

The last time we sat down with Miro was 5 years ago and when asked what has changed over that time, he stated with a hearty laugh, “I’m an old man now. Slightly wiser, but 10% slower.” Miro has been off work since November dealing with a health issue, but talks fondly about making a quick appearance at the showroom on Monday morning.

He recalls, “When I began to experience health problems 4 or 5 years ago, Tammy and Dan took notice of my attendance. I wasn’t able to work as often and they made a point to ask me what was going on and ask how they could help. They really cared about my health. They sat me down and let me know that they didn’t want my current job to take a toll on my physical body. Instead of heavy lifting all day long, they created a new position for me. I was able to stay on as a secondary driver but my main job was to work the showroom floor. I was in charge of recycling, seeing to it that all of the materials like metals and electronics were disposed of properly.”
