From the time he was very young, woodworking has been a passion of Jean-Guy (John) Therrien.
Upon retiring from 35 years in the telecommunication installation field, which allowed him to travel the world and across Canada, Jean-Guy started a small business doing minor home repairs.
After four years of running John’s Handy Help, Jean-Guy sought out new experiences and opportunities to share his talents and pursue his interests.
When he learned that Furniture Bank had a workshop, he asked if he could have a tour of the warehouse. Soon after meeting with shop manager Melanie, he became a weekly volunteer. Three years later, you can find Jean-Guy happily putting his skills to work every Tuesday helping Melanie and Chris rescue furniture.
“Helping recipients is very rewarding, and repurposing furniture is very satisfying. Not only are you helping people in need, but at the same time, a lot of material and furniture is kept away from landfill. Melanie radiates enthusiasm and joy for the work she does. Furniture Bank is very lucky to have her. She is a gem in a jewelry store. I find everyone I meet to be quite pleasant, sincere and down to earth. To summarize I would have to say IT’S all good!”
